HONESDALE — Activities at the Senior Centers in Honesdale, Hawley and Hamlin have been suspended during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the Nutrition Department at the Area Agency on Aging kitchen continues to make in home meals and drive thru meals available to seniors.

The numbers have increased and the staff now prepares approximately 2,000 meals a week. The agency asks seniors for a $2.50 donation per meal but even that is sometimes difficult for many older adults.

“We are asking for your help,” said Aging Director Mary Ursich. Concerned residents can sponsor a senior for $12.50 to cover the cost of In Home Meals for a week. *We are also collecting local gift cards that seniors can use for food delivery from local restaurants or stores that deliver,” she said.

There are many misconceptions about funding for meals at the Area Agency on Aging. Ursich said the Federal Government and the Pennsylvania Lottery provide only a portion of the total cost. This is why the county also depends so much on donations.

To make a contribution, donate securely online or send a check to the Wayne County Area Agency on Aging, 323 10th Street, Honesdale, 18431. For information call, 570-253-4262.Additional Info…
